New Podcast Preview Episode (Part 1)!

Hello, everyone!  We are extremely excited to release Part 1 of our preview episode for Ravensdale Ramblings, our new podcast!

We have a few different plans for content as we move forward, but generally speaking we'll be discussing board game design, focusing on things like mechanics, balance, theme, and even some of the more terrestrial stuff like manufacturing and shipping costs just to mix it up.

We'll also be inviting guest designers to interview, along with fans of our games and friends of the company, to get different perspectives on what makes games of all kinds fun for people of all kinds.

While the preview episode lacks any fancy intro music or "hooks", we will be ramping up and adding that stuff as we go.  In the meantime, we love to get feedback on what we're doing, so we hope you'll listen, like, share, and comment for Part 1 (Part 2 will be uploaded in a few days).

As always, thanks for being awesome and for tuning in!

Welcoming a New Team Member!

We wanted to invite all of our fans & followers to join us in welcoming Rebecca, our new Social Media Specialist, to the Ravensdale Publishing team!

Starting the week of February 20th, Rebecca will begin taking charge of our social media accounts and engaging our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram followers (as well as our email list) on a regular basis.

We're very excited to be working with her, and we're confident that her enthusiasm will help to make things a lot more exciting around here as we ramp up for the Villains & Henchmen! Kickstarter campaign later this year!  :)

We're Hiring!

Specifically, we're looking for someone to assist us with social media outreach for our games, upcoming events, and other projects. As much as we love interacting with all of our fans and followers, we're not the most social media savvy and we tend to forget to post regularly.

Position Title: Social Media Specialist (Contract)
Hours: Part-time, varies
Schedule: Varies
Location: Remote Work (San Diego or Los Angeles local preferred)
Compensation: Dependant on experience & qualifications

Job Description
The Social Media Specialist (Contract) for Ravensdale Publishing will help to increase community engagement with the company's existing followers and grow the company's fan base. This will involve posting on applicable and appropriate social media accounts with updates, images, and other content related to Ravensdale Publishing products and events. Finally, the social media specialist will identify and explore possible marketing opportunities and partnerships with related companies, media outlets, and brands.

Skills/Qualifications/Characteristics
The ideal candidate will have:
- Solid understanding of social media platforms
- Familiarity with trending topics, current events, and groups/communities that focus on comic books, board games, and general geek/pop culture
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on interacting with diverse groups of customers
- Strong grasp of social media analytics
- Dedication to the role's duties and to Ravensdale Publishing's success
- Attention to detail, especially regarding copy editing and accuracy of information in communications

Preferred Education/Experience
- Background in marketing, community/public relations, or prior work for companies in the gaming or pop culture industries highly valued
- Background as a "gamer", especially a board gamer
- Positive reputation in the overall geek community
- Connections with brands/media outlets that focus on aspects of pop culture

Job Duties
We're interested in hiring someone on a very part-time basis. Essentially, during a standard month we'd be looking for a social media specialist for a few hours (probably 6-8 hours per month).
Prior to and during conventions & similar events, we would likely increase that number of hours based on the size/duration of the event.
And of course, during the Kickstarter campaign, we would require this individual to put in significantly more time to spreading the word, broadcasting project updates, and generally helping us to keep our backers and potential backers informed and engaged!
Occasionally, the social media specialist may be asked to attend conventions and similar events on behalf of Ravensdale Publishing when the company owners are unable to do so, to promote the company's games and other products.
On a monthly basis, the social media specialist will provide status updates on their activities in the form of analytics reports. These reports will coincide with monthly planning meetings via Skype or similar video chat software.
In addition, this role will involve assisting Ravensdale Publishing in establishing and maintaining positive professional relationships with pop culture media outlets (in the form of news sites, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc.).
Finally, the social media specialist will explore and pursue marketing opportunities (including but not limited to interviews, special events, game reviews, and new conventions) for Ravensdale Publishing's games and other products.

Personal Notes
We're gamers - thus our desire to create fun new games! We would love to work with someone like-minded who can play and appreciate the games we design, and can skillfully explain and promote them.
As far as us preferring Southern California locals, that is primarily so we will have opportunities to meet up in person from time to time - either at conventions, company planning sessions, or just for fun! If you're not a SoCal local, don't fret - we're more interested in the general skills and experiences than we are in your zip code!
Ultimately, we would like this to be a fun opportunity for the selected candidate, without sacrificing professionalism, productivity, or quality in their work. We'll do everything we can to provide this individual with the tools and resources needed for success!

Perks
Perks of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Occasional comped entrance into conventions & similar events (for example: San Diego Comic Con, Stan Lee's Comic Expo, KingdomCon, etc.)
- Access to the Ravensdale Publishing's board game library, including prototypes of our upcoming games
- Credit as a member of the Ravensdale Publishing team
- Possible financial bonuses based on performance

Benefits
As a contract position, this position does not include benefits.

If you think you'd be a great fit for this position and would like to join the Ravensdale Publishing team, please submit a resume and/or cover letter summarizing your relevant education, experience, and qualifications to ravensdale (dot) publishing (at) gmail (dot) com, and put "REQ001-M Social Media Specialist" in the subject line.

DO NOT submit applications to us via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other avenue outside of the email address specified above. Applications received other than by email WILL NOT be considered.

Villains & Henchmen! - Live on Kickstarter!

Good morning, Ravensdale Publishing fans!

As of 7:30am PST today, Villains & Henchmen! is officially live on Kickstarter!  Click the link!  Do the things!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1039811131/villains-and-henchmen-the-board-game

We're excited to be hitting this stage with the game!  We've had a lot of success at various events over the last year, running demos and showing it off to gamers all around southern CA.  Now we hope that you'll support us, either by backing the campaign or by spreading the word to your friends, gaming group, and family!

Don't forget that we'll be at two events this weekend, showing V&H! off, so if you want to get hands-on with the game, you can find us at Strategicon (in Los Angeles) and SD Comic Fest (in San Diego).  Check out our Events page for more details!

Thanks for following along with us thus far!  We can't wait to see where things go from here!  :)

Another Update!

We're officially at the 1-month mark before the launch of our Kickstarter!  We're excited - but nervous... mostly nervous...

We've got some really cool stuff planned for the campaign as far as stretch goals go!  We hope that the people who have been following along with us for the last year will be patient with us for just another 32 days, and then descend upon our Kickstarter campaign with abandon!  :)

Thanks for your support so far!  We're getting close to the "big day"!

Oh - before we forget, we'll be offering some promo cards for the game at our upcoming events, including SD Comic Fest and Strategicon (plus another one, possibly, we'll post an update when we confirm)!  So be sure to stop by our tables at these conventions and grab a couple!  :)

Early 2016 Events and Kickstarter Alert!

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!

We're excited to announce that we'll be attending a couple of events in February 2016.  We just got confirmation that we'll have a foyer table at Strategicon's OrcCon event (February 12th-15th, 2016).  We'll also be running demos at San Diego Comic Fest (February 12-15th, 2016).

Observant readers may notice that those events are on the same weekend - and they are!  We'll be both in L.A. and San Diego that weekend showing off Villains & Henchmen!.  More importantly, we'll be promoting the Kickstarter campaign for V&H! at those events!

We'll be launching the Kickstarter campaign right before that weekend, probably on February 11th.  We're planning on running a 30-day Kickstarter, so it should end on April 11th (a Friday).

Obviously, we'll be making some more formal announcements as the days go by, but we wanted to mention our general plans now in case people want to help us out by spreading the word!  :)

Villains & Henchmen! Play-Through Video

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!

We've been pretty quiet over the last month (lots of stuff going on unrelated to V&H!).  We wanted to break that silence by posting a play-through video for Villains & Henchmen!

This is a 4-player game using the Space Station setting, filmed during an Extra Life charity event last month at Brookhurst Hobbies.  It's a long video, but it shows Villains & Henchmen! from start to finish, so if you've never had the chance to play the game before, check it out!

Villains & Henchmen! play-through at Extra Life Charity Event (11/7/15)

V&H! Blog Mention!

We here at Ravensdale Publishing are always excited when someone thinks what we're doing is worth writing about.  At Comikaze Expo this past weekend, one of our players enjoyed Villains & Henchmen! enough to mention us in his blog!

Check out what Doug has to say about V&H! on his blog here.

Also, don't forget that we'll be attending an Extra Life event at Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA this Saturday.  Check out our Event page for more details.

As always, thanks for following along with us!  :)

Extra Life Reminder!

Good morning, Ravensdale Publishing fans!

We wanted to post a reminder about the Extra Life charity event happening this weekend.

You can find the major details here on the event's Facebook page, but we'll offer a quick summary:

The event raises money for the Children's Miracle Network via 24-hour gaming marathons.  Lots of different games will be available to play, including some indie and upcoming games like Villains & Henchmen!.  There will be a tournament format (with the winners getting some cool prizes), as well as an auction and a few Live Streams.

Ravensdale Publishing will be giving away one of the main prizes: a full working prototype of Villains & Henchmen! and the chance to be drawn into the game as a hero or villain (winner's choice)!  If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, then stop on by and prove you're the best villain Earth has to offer!

The event takes place at Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove, CA this Saturday, November 7th starting at 10am and ending Sunday, November 8th at 10am.

See you there!  :)

Comikaze Expo Wrap-Up!

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

We got home from Comikaze Expo last night, and we were pretty wiped out.  We didn't have the volume of traffic that we had hoped, but we still got a lot of interest from people.  Some folks came back to play V&H! multiple times throughout the weekend (which either attests to the quality of the game or the comfort of the seats!).  :)

We'll be putting up some pics from the convention on our Gallery page soon.  You can also see the photos on our Instagram page.

Thanks to everyone who came by to play!  We can't wait for the next event!

Comikaze Expo This Weekend!

Hi everyone!  We have been pretty quiet lately (pro tip: don't try to finish your Master's thesis, regular classes, and promoting/publishing a board game all at the same time - it's surprisingly difficult!) - sorry about that!

We wanted to post a quick announcement/reminder about our presence at Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles this weekend.  We'll be there all three days, with a dedicated table in the gaming area to show off Villains & Henchmen! (and maybe Monster Crush! if a few people really really want to check it out).

We'll have two copies of V&H! available, so you should have no trouble sneaking in a game or two when you decide you need to rest your feet and have some fun at the same time.  :)

See you there!

Creative Play and Podcast Network Interview

Good afternoon, Ravensdale Publishing fans!  This past weekend at RinCon, we had the pleasure of meeting Jim from Creative Play and Podcast Network.  He played Villains & Henchmen! and really liked it, so he graciously took the time to sit down and do a quick interview with us!

If you're a fan of listening to people mess up a simple introduction & greeting, then this interview will be right up your alley!  (For the record, I'm not used to being recorded!)

Please check it out here, and then listen to some of their other fun content!

Extra Life Charity Event Announcement!

Good morning, ladies & gentlemen!

We're excited to announce a cool event that we'll be participating in. Extra Life is a great charity that uses gaming to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.

On November 7th, Ravensdale Publishing will be doing demos of Villains & Henchmen! at Brookhurst Hobbies, in Garden Grove, CA, as part of a local Extra Life charity event.

We'll be offering one of the main prizes packages:
- An early prototype copy of the game (well ahead of its release, making it a one-of-a-kind opportunity!)
- The opportunity to be illustrated into the game as a character by one of our artists

So if you win, not only will you get to be immortalized as a villain (or hero!), you'll also get to go home and play the game with your friends!

There will be a lot of other events and games to play as well, including an auction, a series of Live Streams, and numerous games run by local developers.

If you're in the area on Nov. 7th, please stop by and check out the event. It's going to be a lot of fun, and it's raising money for a great cause!

Also, please promote the event in case you know someone who might want to attend but isn't following us!  Here's the link for the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/157825964563616/

Winding Down From RinCon

Good evening, Ravensdale Publishing fans!  We had a great time at RinCon in Tucson, AZ this past weekend.  We ran several sessions of both Villains & Henchmen! and Monster Crush!, and both games garnered a lot of interest!

Our Villains & Henchmen! slots were full every time, which was a nice surprise - it definitely made the drive out there worthwhile.  It was also great to see our long-time friend J.P., whom we haven't seen in years!

We collected a couple dozen more email addresses for our mailing list, which is always cool.  More importantly, almost everyone who played V&H! vowed to back the game once the Kickstarter campaign launches.  We'll take that, any day!  :)

Next up we have Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles, CA over Halloween weekend.  It should be a blast!  :)

Gearing Up for RinCon!

Good evening, ladies & gentlemen!  We've been kind of quiet these last couple of weeks, but we wanted to post about our upcoming event this weekend.  We'll be in Tucson, AZ from Friday Oct. 2 - Sunday Oct. 4th for the RinCon Gaming Convention!

We'll be running demos of Villains & Henchmen! and Monster Crush! alike, so if you're in the Tucson area and want to check out our games, make sure you stop by.  We'd love to see some new faces at the table and get some more feedback.  :)
